Nucleosome
A nucleosome is a basic unit of DNA, consisting of a segment of DNA wound in sequence around eight histone protein cores. This structure is often compared to thread wrapped around a spool. Explore the 3D structure of Nucleosome 3C1B to learn more about DNA coiling.
Nucleosome
Protein Description
The Nucleosome core is made up of 8 histone proteins and colored purple according to the structure’s atomic temperature ( warmest=pink, coolest=blue). The double-stranded DNA, colored from N to C Terminal blue to red, coils around the DNA allowing us to see the anti-parallel winding of one DNA strand to another. To learn more about histone particles, explore protein data: 1KX5.
